With Christmas just around the corner and the heat of summer intensifying, I often find myself longing to be in a far off place in the Northern Hemisphere where I can sip hot chocolate by a crackling fire or make snowmen in a woollen jumper. After seeing picture after picture online of people running around in the snow it can be a little hard getting into the spirit of Christmas with the blistering Australian sun preventing us from doing all the activities shown in movies. So here is a list of the top 3 traditional Christmas activities you can do in Perth despite the summer weather…
1. Go on a Christmas lights adventure
Whether it’s just a stroll around your neighbourhood or a late night drive from one end of town to the other, it’s always fun to go Christmas light hunting and check out all the effort people have put in to make their houses dazzling.

2. Whip up some delicious Christmas treats
Christmas baking is wonderful because you get to enjoy the process of making and decorating your own creation, and you get to eat the delicious food, duh!
Some of the Christmas classics include; Gingerbread houses, sugar cookies, fruit mince pies and shortbread biscuits.
Why don’t you try this very easy sugar cookie recipe:
3. Sing or listen to some Christmas carols
During the month of December, there are several carol concerts happening all over the city of Perth whether it is a small concert put on by the local shire or the annual IGA Carols by Candlelight (happening this year on December 18), carols are a great way to get into the Christmas spirit.
If you don’t want to leave the house, don’t worry just hit press play on Spotify’s Christmas playlist and evoke your inner Mariah!
4. Watch a Christmas movie
Everyone has a favourite Christmas movie that they dust off each year. Christmas movies are a way to relax the fam in the holiday bustle from the comfort of your aircon. Some classics to watch this year: Love Actually, Elf, Christmas Vacation, Deck the Halls, Home Alone and The Grinch.
5. Host a Secret Santa Christmas party
Gather your besties and throw a Christmas party where each person buys a secret gift for someone in the group. We are all trying to stick to our holiday budgets, so make the limit $10 and try to find the quirkiest gift you can. Merry Christmas!
